Description Germany WW1 1914 airship in combat medal struck in zinc alloy (Kaiser 405.2), 40 mm diameter; rare early WW-I issue; toned AU with original dark-gray patina. FREE SHIPPING WITHIN THE US FOR THIS ITEM.  Hard-to-find airship medal issued in the early days of these huge rigid airships. What makes it even more rare is the fact that this medal was stuck to commemorate one of the first uses of an airship in combat. The reverse depicts the airship bombarding the French fortress on the foreground; a portrait if the famous airship designer Graf Ferdinand Von Zeppelin on obverse; designed and struck by Mayer & Wilhelm in Stuttgart, German Empire (Kaiser 405.2). The medal still has its original dark-gray patina throughout; not cleaned; a few abrasions spots on obverse are noted for accuracy. This is large medal – about 40 mm in diameter; 18.7 grams; no typical rim nicks, dings, or scratches; plain rim. This rare WW1 / early airship era medal will be a welcome addition to any collection.
