UNISSUED US WWII KNIFE -Cattaraugus 225Q Quartermaster -Rare WW2

$49.37 $96.27
Description 1 mint unissued US WWII Cattaraugus 225Q fighting knife. This U.S. military knife would make an important addition to any collection. This knife measures 10 1/2″ overall. The blade itself measures 6″. The blade tang is stamped ‘Cattaraugus 225Q’. The 225Q blade was designed extra thick for prying open shipping crates during the War. The pommel on the 225Q Quartermaster fighting knife has a hammer head for pounding the crate lids back down again. The Cattaraugus 225Q is a prominent World War II military knife designed primarily for the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps as a heavy-duty utility and combat tool. Often called the “Quartermaster Knife,” it is renowned for its robust construction, featuring a thick high-carbon steel blade and a unique three-piece steel pommel that could be used as a hammer. Key Specifications Blade Length: Typically measures between 5.75 and 6 inches. Overall Length: Approximately 10.5 to 10.62 inches. Blade Material: High-carbon steel, often approximately 3/16 to 1/4 inch thick, providing significant heft. Handle: Constructed of stacked leather washers, usually finished smoothly, though some soldiers added custom grooves for better grip. Pommel: A distinctive three-piece steel assembly designed to remain secure under heavy impact, often featuring a checkered or raised pattern. Historical Use and Design Originally intended for utilitarian tasks like opening crates and hammering nails, the 225Q was widely issued to infantrymen and special forces because of its durability. It is often compared to the KA-BAR, though the 225Q is slightly shorter, thicker, and more robust. A notable historical quirk is that many were issued with left-handed leather sheaths so soldiers could keep their right side clear for a sidearm.   CONDITION: This knife is in unissued condition.     Have a premium collection of U.S. World War 2, Vietnam, etc. fighting knives?
