This is the fancy extremely detailed high-relief type with the gilt finish that was produced before the First Worlds War. This type was used on the senior officers’ shako and dragoon regiments helmets. The cockade is in excellent shape with the original gilt on the front largely intact. The larger pins on the back are intact and look unused; the upper pins on eagle necks had been removed. No other detractions to report; this specimen is almost as  good as you can find these days. This cockade was part of a life-long personal militaria collection meticulously labeled and carefully stored (although mislabeled as “Austrian pin”).
