Hampshire Coastal Defence Great War medal group

Description The Great War and Special Constabulary medal group of William Scorey of Braishfield born Hampshire man with numerous personal items. From Braishfield, Romsey, Hampshire he volunteered in 1914 and after a brief period of service at home he was drafted to France 1916. On the Western Front he took part in the Battles of the Somme, Arras, Ypres and Albert. This medal group of 3 comes with a good collection of items that includes a rare surviving Certificate of Thanks to 1155 Scorey from the Officer Commanding Hampshire Royal Garrison Artillery, Coast Defence Anti-Aircraft Heavy Artillery. This certificate has been laid on to card to prevent further deterioration and is accompanied by a crude brass frame with detached Royal Artillery cap badge.  This charming certificate depicts a Martello Tower as wartime headquarters. Other items are a trench art lighter, police whistle, cap badge, RFA shoulder title pair, Royal Artillery sweetheart badge, Hampshire Regiment (Cat and Cabbage) sweetheart badge, a theatre made identification badge. Lastly a Kendal and Dents, Swiss made, pocket watch which has the name Scorey crudely engraved (CPL. W. SCOREY 154 RGA HB.). This watch also has a photograph of 2 women inserted into the lid. It is a Kendal & Dent’s Dustproof Lever silver pocket watch (serial number 322431), circa 1900. The case is 935 silver. The winding key is present attached by string. He appears in the 1911 Census living as a dairyman (aged 17yrs) living at Fir Tree Cottage, Braishfield Nr Romsey, Hants.
