But by the time the Summer Olympics took place in Spain the there was no longer a country called USSR – it disintegrated into a number of independent republics and the oppressive Soviet rule was no more (or so we though until putin came along). The USSR issued just six proof-only commemorative Rouble coins for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics issue. The total mintage was just 250,000 coins of each type.
