Description Germany WW2 military folding knife, original belt-carry leather sheath included. Hard-to-find type in excellent condition, considering the age. FREE SHIPPING WITHIN THE U.S FOR THIS ITEM! A scarce original WW2 era German Aircrew Emergency Survival Knife that was issued to Luftwaffe aircrews, original hard-to-find leather sheath is included. Similar type is illustrated on Page 93 of Luftwaffe vs RAF, Flying Equipment of the Air War, 1939-1945 by Mick J. Prodger. This WW2 era knife’s design is based on the WW1 era Soldatenmesser – soldier’s knife favorite by German soldiers during the Great War. The Germans loosely based the original design of the Soldatenmesser knife on the Swiss Victorinox Soldats Modele de 1890 – see the scan of the original blueprints attached. Soldatenmesser knife was manufactured by the Imperial Germany during WW1, as well as during WW2, but with more modern materials. This type is illustrated on pages 8, 14 (WW1 issue) and page 197 (WW2 issue) of the excellent French reference book Knives and Daggers-Bayonets Used by the German Army During 1914-1945 by Christian Mary (see the book’s scans attached). This folder is about 4-1/8” / 10.5 cm overall closed; the largest blade is about 3-1/8” / 8 cm long. The blade is stamped with with a company logo but it’s a weak strike and it’s hard to read. Looks like HA….RE. All blades and tools are in great shape with no pitting or rust; original light-gray patina throughout. Blades are razor-sharp still; no edge nicks or dings on the spine; tips are intact. Original red Bakelite handle scales are in great shape, considering the age – no typical cracks or chips; all parts are tight with no play. Original leather sheath is in great shape as well; the leather is soft and supple still. This hard-to-find original Germany WW2 military folding knife was part of the diverse collection of militaria items that I’ve recently purchased spanning from WW1 to the War in Vietnam.
